clear blue sky

ok, i know i should be working, but my brother just sent me this photo in response to my last post and i had to share. he took it on his drive from denver to colorado springs when he was visiting last month and seriously, i forget how pretty a blue sky is without smog and humidity and whatever else that blurs the sky....and if you look really close, there's snow on top of pikes peak...beautiful...

i miss you pikes peak....

my blog is suppose to be all about the things i love and don't love. first off, i love mountains. i love pikes peak. i love that from my parents' house you can see pikes peak. here are some pictures my sister took with her phone when she went for a walk the other day and sent them to me. it's so beautiful, even photos off of a phone look good...

what i don't love is that i no longer have mountains to look at. yes, there are giant trees here that are pretty. yes, if you drive outside of town, there are beautiful ranches with rolling hills. yes, texas has its own sort of beauty. but, where are the majestic mountains that God uses to blatantly prove how huge he is and how small we are? where are the giant rocks that beg you to go for a hike and meander through the trees and creeks?

i'm starting to like you texas, but i sure do miss my mountains...

Amaryllis Here I Come

As I was sitting in Common Grounds, our dear friend Keane came and gave me an amaryllis bulb! I'm kind of nervous though. My first plant that I haven't killed is sitting in my office window...It's even continuing to grow and I replanted it in a pot I painted:

And now I have another plant to conquer! After reading the planting and care tips it seems easy to get it to flower, but there are a lot of steps after that. Apparently after it blooms, you cut it back and put it in your fridge for six weeks, but make sure there isn't an apple in the fridge - they will sterilize the bulb...what if Greg and I forget and put an apple in the fridge? I guess plants are my new test. If I can take care of a plant then I can take care of a dog and then....baby steps....
