Something I learned from Clueless...

So our house still smells like scallops. I can't get rid of it. I'm afraid our clothes have been infused with the fishy smell. This afternoon, I am turning to my good friends, the chocolate chip cookies, to come to the rescue...I'll let you know how it goes. I think I might make these delicious sounding cookies the wonderful little Mrs. Frazier created and the cute little Mrs. Pinson recreated as well...

"It's Top Chef, not Top Scallops"

After watching Julie & Julia with Greg and Laura yesterday, I went home craving to use all of the wonderful kitchen utensils that our friends and families blessed us with when we got married. I always laugh as we watch Top Chef and Iron Chef America since we can usually pinpoint quite a few kitchen tools on those shows that we also have in our tiny little apartment kitchen, yet we probably have no idea how to use them correctly and quite possible have never even used them. It's sad. I know. But, after the cute and wonderful movie yesterday, I went home, pulled out at least ten of the cookbooks on our shelf and started perusing for the perfect dinner. Our friend Keane came over as well and it became a gourmet night. And, since scallops seem to always be on Top Chef (hence the title of this post) we based our meal around the scallops and for some reason did more of an Asian mix rather than the French mix, but it sounded good. Here are a few of the photos of our delicious meal (I'm definitely not a food stylist...maybe someday I will be...)

Our first course was shrimp spring rolls with a lime-cilantro sauce. I really want to make them again with other sauces. Anybody have a good peanut sauce?

Here's our cilantro-lime shrimp with coconut rice. We also added mushrooms, snap peas and scallops...look at that perfect sear :)

(Both recipes are out of Food Made Fast cookbooks from Williams-Sonoma...they're my fave...)

freshman year...

As I drove to work today, there were lines of cars with anxious freshman and parents waiting to move in to the dorms. It made me think about the fact that I was in that same position exactly six years ago. It seems like ages. I remember being so excited, yet so freaked out that I was moving hundreds of miles away from home. It was so much fun to decorate my little space and meet my roommate. My dad moved all of my clothes and shoes up to the third floor of South Russell - and boy was he glad that even though my room number was 6-something it was not on the sixth floor. My mom was even able to come down with me after having had surgery that summer. Apparently I don't have any photos of move-in day...maybe my parents do, but here are some photos from fall of my freshman year:

Freshman Class Council Retreat
(where Greg and I met and I thought he was ridiculous and
would have never thought I would date him, let alone marry him...ha!)

Baylor Football - Sporting the Line Jerseys
(This is one of those photos where we were actually trying to get
a picture of the cute guys in the back...)

The FCC Homecoming Float!
(This was at 6am where we had to wait until the parade started -
to think I now work on this street...)

Homecoming Bonfire

Steppin' Out
(We painted that house for the campus wide community service day)

My excitement to be back home for Christmas break after my first four months in the Texas heat...

we've moved....

I can't explain how excited we are about our new place! Greg and I just did the walk-through of our old place so that we could make sure to get our deposit back and walking in there just made me cringe. It was a great little apartment for our first year of marriage and it was definitely a money-saver. We went through a lot with that place, but it made us a stronger couple. At least we know we will always be living somewhere better than that!

Our new place is so much cozier, so much more inviting, so much cleaner! When we get everything up on the walls, I'll post some pictures. In the meantime, start planning your trip to come stay with us 'cause I decorated the guest room last night...
